Long-term rental

Long-term car rental in Melbourne: a car for months, not a loan for years

Need a car for a few months — between vehicles, on a work contract, or while you settle in Melbourne? Long-term car rental gives you a registered, serviced car on a weekly rate, without a finance contract or the cost of ownership.

What long-term car rental looks like

Same weekly rate, longer term

Long-term rentals use the same weekly rent shown on each car. You tell us how many weeks you expect; the agreement records a planned end date that can be extended.

Minimum term, no maximum

Each car has a minimum term and no fixed maximum. Many long-term customers extend month by month.

Servicing is our job

Scheduled servicing stays on us. We arrange it around your week and, where we can, swap you into another car while yours is in the workshop.

Bond once, not every week

One refundable bond is held for the whole rental and returned after the final inspection, less any deductions agreed under your terms.

Weekly billing you can plan around

Rent is paid weekly in advance by an agreed payment method, on a fixed day, so there are no surprises.

Kilometres that suit how you drive

Every car has a weekly kilometre allowance. If you expect to drive more, tell us at enquiry and we can quote a higher allowance rather than extra-kilometre charges.

Current prices from our listed cars

Each car shows its weekly rent, refundable bond, minimum term and kilometre allowance on its page. No cars are listed right now — send an enquiry and we will tell you what is coming up.

Who it suits

Common reasons people rent long-term

  • New to Melbourne

A car from the first week while you sort out licence conversion, finance or a purchase.

  • Students

A car for a semester, a placement or part-time work, extended in writing as plans change.

  • Between cars

Sold yours, waiting on a delivery or an insurance claim? Bridge the gap week by week.

  • Work contracts and small business

A car for the length of a contract or a season, without buying and selling at both ends.

  • Waiting on a repair

Weeks in the workshop? Rent until yours is back on the road.

Students

Long-term car rental for students

For placements, part-time work in the suburbs, or a home that public transport does not reach. Students rent on the same terms as everyone else, for as many weeks as the semester needs.

Semester-length rentals

Tell us when your semester, placement or contract starts and ends. The agreement records a planned end date to match. Rent is paid weekly in advance, so the cost is spread across the semester.

Extensions in writing

If your placement runs longer or you pick up a summer job, tell us before your planned end date. If the car is not booked by someone else, we extend the agreement in writing and keep billing weekly — no new bond.

Sharing with an additional driver

A housemate or classmate can drive the car once they are approved as an additional driver: they show their licence, meet the same requirements and sign the agreement. The main renter stays responsible for rent, tolls and fines, so agree the split between yourselves in writing.

Going home over the break

Leaving Melbourne for the summer? You can return the car with notice rather than pay for weeks it sits parked, and enquire again when you are back. Which cars are free when you return depends on the fleet at the time.

What you pay

The weekly rent and refundable bond shown on each car, plus your own fuel, tolls and parking. Campus parking is usually paid, so check your campus rates.

Licence and age

A current driver's licence, photo ID, an agreed payment method and the refundable bond.

We'll confirm eligibility for your licence and age when you enquire.

Compare

Long-term rental versus buying or a car loan

An honest comparison. Owning is cheaper over many years; renting wins when the horizon is months and the exit needs to be simple.

Long-term rental

  • One weekly rent, one refundable bond
  • Registration and servicing included; cover and excess set out in your agreement
  • Extend or end with notice; no resale
  • Kilometre allowance applies

Buying a used car

  • Purchase price up front or financed
  • You carry rego, insurance, servicing, repairs and depreciation
  • Selling takes time and the price is uncertain
  • Unlimited kilometres

Car loan or subscription

  • Fixed contract length, often with exit fees
  • Credit assessment required
  • Monthly billing; inclusions vary widely
  • Read the fine print on kilometres and wear

Need the car for only a few weeks? See weekly car rental. What you need to bring is on the rental requirements page.

Long-term rental questions

Is there a maximum rental length?

No fixed maximum. Agreements are written with a planned end date and extended in writing for as long as you need the car.

Does the weekly rate drop for longer terms?

The listed weekly rent applies. If you are committing to a long term, ask when you enquire and we will quote for your dates and expected kilometres.

What happens when the car needs a service?

We arrange and pay for scheduled servicing. You bring the car to the agreed workshop or pickup point; where possible we provide another car for the day.

Can someone else drive the car?

Only drivers named on the agreement. Additional drivers must meet the same licence and age requirements and be added in writing before they drive.

Can I take the car interstate?

Ask first. Interstate travel may be permitted with written approval; the agreement and any car-specific restrictions apply.

What if my plans change and I need to end early?

Tell us as soon as you know. Your agreement sets out the notice required and whether any rent for the remainder of the minimum term applies.

Can students rent long-term?

Yes. Students rent on the same terms as anyone else: a current driver's licence, photo ID, the refundable bond and weekly rent. Tell us your semester or placement dates and we will quote for that length, then extend in writing if you need longer.

Is there a student discount?

There is no published student discount; the weekly rent shown on each car applies. If you are committing to a long term, ask when you enquire and we will quote for your dates and expected kilometres.

Is insurance included?

Cover and excess are explained in your agreement before you sign — ask us.

Can I rent on an overseas or provisional licence?

We'll confirm eligibility for your licence and age when you enquire. Tell us your licence type and the country that issued it.
